Reflecting on 2019 and looking forward to new opportunities in 2020, we see three milestones that could shape environmental management in the year ahead.
ASBESTOS
The Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now bill was approved by the House Energy & Commerce Committee in November. This could lead to a a complete ban on asbestos in 2020. We will be watching closely to see how this legislation could impact buildings that contain legacy asbestos.
MOLD
The DC Council & other state/local regulators are developing tougher mold enforcement laws, which could increase liability for building owners & property managers.
It's important to get proactive about controlling moisture to prevent mold growth.
LEAD
Beginning in January 2020, tighter standards for lead dust will apply to residential properties & child-occupied facilities. Property owners & managers will be required to comply with clearance testing protocols to ensure that lead dust levels are below U.S. EPA's new thresholds.
